Boarding your dog can be a great experience for both the pet and the owner. The most important key is choosing the best place for your pet to spend their time away from home. After all, we want our loved pet to be as comfortable as possible and we don’t want our pet to be traumatized or stressed. You want to pick a facility that your pet can call his home away from home. Choosing the right place is as important to your pet as choosing a hotel for you while on vacation.
It’s a good idea to research several different boarding facilities before making that important decision. There are several factors to consider when you need to board your dog including facility amenities, the number of staff on hand at all times, overall condition of the grounds and facility, and price.
Most boarding facilities offer some of the same amenities:
- You will want to know if there is a place for your dog to run freely. Any good facility will have an area for your dog to exercise and play with other dogs.
- Find out how many staff members are on hand at different times of the day when your pet might need more attention.
- Visit the facility on more than one occasion, and if possible, at different times of the day.
- View the grounds to see if the premise is well kept.
- Does it look safe for your pet?
- Do the other animals look happy and playful?
- Ask the staff when your dog will have outside time. When will they be walked?
- Will someone be on staff overnight in case of an emergency?
- When will they eat? How often? Will I need to provide my own food?
- You can also ask if you are able to bring comforts from home for pet such as a blanket or favorite toy.

| Prices can vary greatly depending on the area you live, time of the year, and the number of perks that each facility offers. Once you have seen the facility, you should feel comfortable about the price. If not, it’s probably not the right place for you and your pet. If you feel comfortable, go ahead and book a stay. Make sure you book ahead with plenty of time in advance, especially around the holidays, as boarding facilities fill up quickly at those times. |
